Muslim, feminist media critic
Fatemeh Fakhraie is the founder and chief editor of the blog Muslimah Media Watch, which criticises and documents the media image of Muslim women.
"Even though we are of different nationalities, sects, races, etc., we have an important common cause: we are tired of seeing ourselves depicted as passive victims or as dangerous, sexualised, faceless objects. This makes Muslim women in the West feel foreign and unwelcome. The blog is the place where we can speak our minds – from a Muslim-feminist perspective."
Fatemeh Fakhraie, who lives in Chicago, will talk about the blog and its effect and talk about some of her ideas as to how the most stereotype images of women can be avoided by the media all over the world. Pernille Tranberg, chief editor of "Tænk", is her opponent and sparring partner.
